“Strengthening Mental Health for Those Who Lead, Teach, and Perform at the Highest Levels”
Umeka Wright is a Licensed Professional Counselor, educator, and mental health advocate. She is the Founder of Making It Wright Counseling & Consulting, a Dallas Fort Worth based practice dedicated to strengthening the mental health and overall well-being of high performers in sports, education, and leadership.
Drawing from her experience as both a former athlete and the mother of six children who have participated in competitive sports from junior college to Division I, Umeka brings a unique perspective to her work. She understands not only the victories and visible successes but also the hidden pressures, emotional demands, and identity struggles that often accompany competitive sports and high-performance environments. This insight allows her to connect authentically and provide tailored support that fosters resilience, confidence, and balance.
In addition to her private practice, Umeka serves as Director of Student and Employee Wellness for a local school district, where she develops and leads large-scale wellness initiatives for staff, students, and the community. She is also a sought-after speaker and facilitator for schools, churches, conferences, and athletic organizations, where she delivers workshops and keynote presentations on mental health, stress management, performance anxiety, and resilience.
At Making It Wright Counseling & Consulting, Umeka’s mission is to ensure that mental health is valued as highly as physical performance and academic success. She creates safe, supportive spaces that empower individuals to thrive both in their personal lives and professional or performance roles. She continues to expand her work with schools and organizations to make mental health a priority in every arena of performance and leadership.
